Last Day to see Freedom Quilt Garden at Beach Institute

Come by to see the outdoor garden art installation in conjunction with the 2025 NOGS Hidden Gardens Tour, this marks the Beach Institute’s third time participating in the tour and second consecutive year as an official stop. This year’s NOGS theme—“Pieces and Places: Pieces of our Lives like Quilting Squares & Places in our Hearts like Gardens”—beautifully complements the spirit of the Freedom Quilt Garden.

Curated by Master Gardener Sandra Cason in collaboration with the King-Tisdell Cottage Foundation, the exhibit interprets oral traditions tied to the Underground Railroad through heirloom plants and symbolic quilt blocks. Each square represents a coded message believed by some to have guided enslaved people on their path to freedom—telling a story of resilience, creativity, and cultural survival. The garden is open to the public during regular museum hours and is included with admission. Educational materials and group tours are available upon request. $12 for Savannah residents, $10 for seniors, students, and military. 12-5 p.m. Beach Institute, 502 E. Harris St.
