‘Good music is good music’: Savannah singing competition American Traditions encourages inclusivity for all voices
'It started as a competition for Black women to sing Black American music, hence the name American traditions,” says Sodergren. “My goal has been to try to push it back towards what the original intention was, and without being exclusionary of anyone, we want to just emphasize what is important.'
