Opinion: Black August and America's peculiar blindness
The surgeries of the Civil War, Reconstruction, and the Civil Rights movement gave this nation the procedure it so deeply needed. Still, it wasn’t enough to keep the condition from forming new symptoms and becoming partially blind again.
