“An Apology for the Course and Outcome of Certain Events…” 20th Anniversary Play

First performed in Savannah twenty years ago in the then-nascent Starland District, “An Apology for the Course and Outcome of Certain Events Delivered by Doctor John Faustus on This His Final Evening” gleefully returns to the neighborhood for a 20th Anniversary production. Inspired by the legend of Faustus, Chicago-based playwright Mickle Maher has turned everything you think you know about the long-suffering Doctor and his constant companion Mephistopheles on its head, creating a hugely entertaining and unexpectedly theatrical double act that muses on everything from the creation of language to the insanity of convenience stores. The production is sponsored by J. Wilson Morris, produced by Kinetic Stages, and all ticket sales will benefit the work of Savannah Performance Alliance & Savannah Performing Arts Festival. Tickets available via Eventbrite here. Starting at $15. 7 p.m. Victory North, 2603 Whitaker St.

All spiritual practice, across all religions, starts with some form of meditation! Some benefits of meditation: Anxiety and stress reduction, inner peace, heightened spiritual senses, improved manifestation, self-awareness and more easeful day-to-day living. Each session begins with a short talk on Yoga Philosophy, an explanation of the techniques, then have 10-20 minutes of practice together. All levels are encouraged to come, and chairs will be available. Tickets not required, $5 donation encouraged, but no one turned away due to lack of funds. 6-7 p.m. Cosmic Corner, 305 E. 38th St.

“Who Gave You Permission?” Art Opening

Location Gallery had artists apply for what we called the “Up For Grabs” show. After careful consideration of the top 3 applicants, they decided the strength of the work by a group of female artists was the most provocative. “Who Gave You Permission?” is a group exhibition showcasing portraits of women by 8 women artists across a variety of mediums. The show features exquisite oil paintings by Melinda Borysevicz, deft and wry paintings by Mary Carol Kenney, vivid color portraiture by Tafy LaPlanche, hauntingly poetic mixed media encaustics by Tobia Makover, pointedly thoughtful oil painting by Darcy Melton, boldly oscillating analog collages by Nancey B. Price, stitched narrative on fabric by Bri’Anna J. Richards and dazzling pattern and color mixed media pieces by Julia Roland.

The group and the work was curated by Darcy Melton, with the idea of the strength of women within an uninterrupted gaze. This exhibition is about showing all facets of what it means to be a woman, from anger to joy, from contemplation to motivation, not as objects but as both the central figure and artist. “Who Gave You Permission?” declares the answer, “I did.” Free. 6-8 p.m. Location Gallery at Corcoran Austin Hill Realty, 251 Bull St.
