Davenport House Museum & Coastal Table and Tales to Present Anela Malik Talk, Book Signing for American Soul: The Black History of Food in the United States
The Davenport House Museum, a historic property owned and operated by Historic Savannah Foundation, and Coastal Table and Tales, Savannah’s first dedicated cookbook store and culinary gathering space, will join forces to welcome acclaimed author Anela Malik as part of the national book tour for her new release, American Soul: The Black History of Food in the United States. This lively discussion will be moderated by Savannah-based writer and editor Amy Paige Condon, co-author of celebrated works on Gullah Geechee and African American foodways. Ships of the Sea Maritime Museum to Present “Beyond the Plate: Sea and Sky” Exhibition Featuring Original Art by Rob Strati
From September 25-April 12, Join the Ships of the Sea Maritime Museum for an exhibition “Beyond the Plate: Sea and Sky” by Rob Strati. Following the success of the museum’s two recent exhibitions—“Sea of Ink: Savannah Maritime Tattoos,” which closes on August 31 after an extended run due to its popularity, and “Waves of Wonder,” which won a Coastal Museum Association’s Excellence in Exhibition Award—“Beyond the Plate” will showcase new work by one of America’s hottest contemporary artists. Strati has recently enjoyed sold-out exhibits at Duane Reed Gallery in St. Louis and FREMIN Gallery in New York and has sold work to top international art collectors in New York, London, Hong Kong, Dubai and beyond. Strati’s art incorporates broken porcelain plates that have been embellished and adorned with creative details. “Beyond the Plate: Sea and Sky” will showcase the artist’s latest bold, kinetic mixed-media works and limited-edition prints as well as an ambitious site-specific installation that will be suspended from the ceiling of the Ships of the Sea atrium. $15 per person. 5:30-7:30 p.m. Ships of the Sea Maritime Museum, 41 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd
Farmers and Fishermen Savannah Sunset Market at Eastern Wharf

Yogic Meditation
This group is hosted by Carmen and focuses on Yogic style meditation. All participants have the option of a chair or a mat and bolster to sit on, but feel free to bring a zafu/zabutan if you have one you like to use! All spiritual practice, across all religions, starts with some form of meditation! Meditation is simply the practice of stilling and focusing the mind on a single point to gain insight, deeper awareness, and the ability to work with the subtle energetic world. Some benefits of meditation: Anxiety and stress reduction, inner peace, heightened spiritual senses, improved manifestation, self-awareness and more easeful day-to-day living. Each session begins with a short talk on Yoga Philosophy, an explanation of the techniques, then have 10-20 minutes of practice together. Phil the Neighborhoods free community concerts begin! This season's Phil the Neighborhoods series kicks off at Hunter Army Airfield's New Savannah Community Center! The Flannery O’Connor Childhood Home (FOCCH), a nonprofit dedicated to preserving the legacy of one of the South’s greatest writers, is kicking off spooky season with its third annual candlelight reading! Hear Moon River Opera perform haunting arias as the sun sets before settling in to listen to one of Flannery O’Connor's darkest stories read by a local actor at The Old Dairy!
