WE caught up with the prolific local music promoter Timothy Walls, who is wrapping up a banner year of bookings through his long-running AURA Fest and Coastal Rock avatars.
Tim's 2025 calendar has included stellar showings from the likes of Weedeater, Haywire, Sins of Godless Men, The Maxines, Evergreen Terrace, Fury In Few, Silly Goose, Homicyde, Daikaiju, and of course the much-anticipated reunion show of local legends Kylesa.
That's just to name a few. Nobody else comes close to bringing in the quantity and quality of local and touring acts to Savannah stages.
This Thursday night Dec. 18, Tim brings Birmingham straight edge beasts No Cure to District Live downtown with a big slate of supporting acts. Tix are on sale here.
Here’s our quick chat with Tim about the gig, and about how things are going:
I'm curious how the District is going as a venue for heavy music, especially since you've been bringing shows to other venues for so long. You just had a great turnout at District for the big Mosh for Tots show. Tell us about the venue and how it's going getting the word out.
It's not a venue really known for heavy shows, so I'm doing the best I can to bring some bigger name acts there. They've been working with me getting the press release shared, co-posting on social media, and getting digital posters all over Plant Riverside.
Tell us a bit about the straight edge scene. It seems very vibrant compared to some other aspects of the heavy music world these days.
I've been hearing that people aren't consuming as much alcohol nowadays for health reasons. I think the straight edge scene helps people connect with a culture and scene that they can fit in and relate to, especially when alcohol and drugs are everywhere in society whether it's at shows, on TV, in restaurants etc.
No Cure breaks some barriers compared to many bands in the heavy space. What in your mind is great about No Cure?
I'm not sure if they'd consider themselves "crossover," but if you're into hardcore, metalcore, or thrash they blend those genres very well. It's been cool to see them rise up in the scene, getting on bigger tours and festivals but they're not compromising their sound while doing it.
Fill us in on what's awesome about the other bands on the bill.
I'm a fan of fromjoy. They are mixing metalcore with melodic/experimental and electronic parts. It's a real treat, and I'm personally excited to see them live.
Surfaced is an up and coming hardcore band from Kentucky. They have a bit of buzz and a band to watch out for.
Rhythm of Fear are a crossover thrash band from Jacksonville, FL. They've been around for over 10 years, and recently had an album on MNRK Heavy. They've played with Vatican in town a good bit in the past, and headlined our livestream concert "Home Invasion" back in 2020.
Endera are one of Savannah's up and coming metalcore bands. They've been gaining a lot of traction. Look out for new music coming out from them very soon.
