Savannah is built on top of an ancient offshore barrier island – a sandbar or sand dune, really, which is how all barrier islands begin. This is true of most human habitat on the Coastal Plain – it centers on the tops of primordial sandbars which formed during the Pleistocene Era.

A main discussion had to do with the need to improve or augment local septic systems in an age of declining/undependable water table, due to increased development and impacts of climate change.
